Today
we boarded the Crystal Symphony. This will be our home for the next 12 days.
Not exactly like the first blog entry on our last cruise “home for the next 49
days” but glorious nonetheless! We had to make our way from Southend-on-Sea to
Tilbury where we boarded the ship. We decided to take a train, which was pretty
seamless. We took a cab from our hotel, we could have walked if we didn’t have luggage
– wifi and AC isn’t so bad and 22£ rather than 65£ in a car the whole way…wasn’t
as fast, but different and we have nothing but time today.
Boarding
was a breeze…a shuttle from the train, a quick loo stop, through check-in and a
champagne in my hand in about 30 minutes. We wandered around getting our
bearings for a bit until the room was ready, glad to have been able to get here
a few days ahead. Those who only arrived from North America today…napping
anywhere they can find on the ship are slightly obvious – I’m thankful to have
had a good night’s sleep last night.
This
ship as it compares to last year’s… 51,044 vs 49,000 tons, 781 vs 670
feet, 922 vs 700 passengers. It’ll be interesting to see how much different
this one ‘feels’ compared to the one we are familiar with.
We
are overnight here in Tilbury, so there’s no lifeboat drill until tomorrow when
we set sail. The rest of the afternoon is spent unpacking. In the evening we
have a drink, eat dinner, another drink and get to bed. Tomorrow is an 8 hour
tour, so we’ll need sleep.

I just got caught up on your blog you have been putting the miles on with your Fitbit that's a great way to start your vacation :-) the cruise ship sounds lovely.
The room looks nice. And the balcony looks like a good size. Looking forward to your review of the Crystal cruise.
Enjoy!
